What is a cornice?
A cornice is a decorative moulding that sits where the wall meets the ceiling. It adds a clean finished look to a room by covering up any joins between surfaces ( these can sometimes be uneven joins and cracks that need covering) The cornice sometimes referred to as a ceiling cornice will add an aesthetic element and style by hiding some imperfections.
What is another name for a cornice?
A Cornice goes by many names it is some times referred to as coving or crown molding (crown moulding) or simply cornicing.
What types of cornices do you offer?
We offer a wide range of interior ceiling cornices made from XPS polystyrene . Our ceiling cornices come in a variety of modern styles , sizes and finishes. What is a cornice made of?
Cornices are typically made from of three main materials
Plaster
A traditional material that has been used for decades, most Australian homes have a plaster styled cornice. Plaster cornices offer sharp detail and a solid feel. They are ideal for heritage homes and decorative interiors but are heavier and require professional installation.
EPS ( Expanded Polystyrene)
Lightweight and cost effective, EPS cornices are made from foam beads that are moulded into shape. They are easy to install and paint, making them a popular choice for DIY projects. However, they can be less durable than other options
XPS (Extruded Polystyrene)
Modern and moisture resistant, XPS ceiling cornices are manufactured from high density foam. They offer a smooth finish, are more durable than EPS and are perfect for clean modern designs. This is the material we use at Cornice Pro for its excellent strength to weight ratio and refined look
Which type of cornice is best?
It all depends on your needs
Plaster cornices
Are best for traditional or ornate interiors where fine details and heritage style matter most. However, they are heavier and prone to breaking, styles are also quick to become obsolete leaving you stuck trying to find a replacement years later. Plaster can be tricky to install and would require a professional.
EPS cornices
Are Ideal for budget friendly , DIY applications . They are light and easy to work with but not as durable or refined in appearance.
XPS cornices
Offers the best of both worlds. XPS cornices are lightweight like EPS but they are denser, smoother and more resistant to moisture. They are the perfect Ceiling cornice for modern designs, quick to install and long lasting

What materials are your cornices made from?
Our cornices are made from high-quality XPS (extruded polystyrene), which is lightweight, durable, and easy to install. This material is moisture-resistant and flame retardant it is perfect for both residential and commercial applications. XPS cornices are extremely lightweight and can be applied by a solo applicant they work very well with acrylic paints and stick with any cornice adhesive.

Can I view your products in person before purchasing?
Yes! We welcome customers to visit our showroom in Ormeau, Gold Coast to see our full range of cornices. This gives you the opportunity to touch and feel the cornices before purchasing .
How long does delivery take?
Delivery times depend on your order size and location. Standard orders are usually dispatched within a few business days. Custom orders may require additional lead time, which we’ll confirm with you when you place your order.
Are your cornices suitable for bathrooms or kitchens?
Absolutely! Our XPS cornices are moisture-resistant and well-suited for use in bathrooms, kitchens, and other areas with higher humidity. Our ceiling cornices can also be placed on to tile with our Cornice adhesive just ensure that you have wiped the tile first with an acetone to remove any oily residue.

What is a drop
A Cornice drop is the vertical measurement from the ceiling down to the lowest point of the cornice ( not the face of the cornice). This is one of the key dimensions used to identify cornice size.
How do I measure the drop of my cornice?
To measure the drop you would place a ruler or a tape measure at the bottom of the cornice and measure straight up towards the ceiling.
What if I cant remove my cornices to measure the drop?
If you can't remove your cornice, you can use a right angled ruler or a carpenters square to measure the drop accurately while the cornice is still installed.
Why do I need to know the drop of my cornice?
Knowing the drop helps determine what size cornice will look and fit best in your space. The drop affects how balanced the cornice appears in relation to your ceiling height.
What's the difference between drop, face and projection?
Drop- ceiling to bottom of Cornice
Face- diagonal front surface of the cornice
Projection- how far the cornice extends ot across the ceiling from the wall
What's the standard drop size for cornices?
Standard cornice drops are 55mm, 75mm and 90mm but larger features can have deeper drops for a more dramtic effect .
What is a square set cornice?
A Square set Cornice is a specially designed cornice made to mimic the look of a square set ceiling , they give the appearance of a square set look without the work needed to reset your ceiling, they also come with added benefits like integrated LED channels or tidy cable management.
How do I work out how much Adhesive I need?
One tube of adhesive should cover about 6m of cornice . So if you are ordering 12m of cornice you will need two tubes of adhesive!
What do you use to cut the cornice?
Cutting the cornice is easy, you just need a fine toothed saw. Measure the cornice and mark where you want to make the cut. Place the cornice on a steady surface, gently place your hand on it too keep it from slipping. Cut smoothly in one motion keeping the blade steady. Always cut slowly allowing the blade to do the work.
Who installs cornices?
Our cornices are so simple to install that anyone can do it but if you prefer to use a qualified Tradesman your best bet is with a Plasterer. Plasterers are highly qualified to install cornices if you are looking for a plasterer on the Gold Coast give us a call and we can help you or else have a look at Hipages or Airtasker.
Why do cornices crack?
Traditionally its plaster cornices that crack due to their rigid nature and they cant handle the natural building movements. Our XPS polystyrene cornices are lightweight and slightly flexible so they are less likely to crack , at worst you might see a hairline crack in the paint if the building shifts a lot but the cornice will not break. We also use a flexible gap and fill adhesive that reduces movement and keeps the finish looking seamless.
Can Polystyrene Cornices be painted?
Yes , they can . you should always use a water based paint and we highly recommended that you use a primer first for a smoother finish. Then just one or two coats depending on your preference.
Are cornices in style?
Styles are objective so yes they will always be in style. Cornices come in a variety of styles from contemporary, traditional , square set and LED cornices .There is a cornice style for everyone.
